Bamboo…
…a natural
substitute for the beautiful yet endangered rain forest
softwoods.

Bamboo is a
grass, not a wood, that can be harvested in about five years
versus 20-50 years for most hardwoods. Since harvesting
does not kill the plant it is constantly regenerating
itself, producing new shoots each year. It can be harvested
and replenished with virtually no impact to the environment.
Recognized as the fastest-growing plant on earth, it offers
25 times the yield of hardwood, yet is much more sustainable
and renewable. It is harder than maple and oak.
My bamboo
products are made from solid Mao Zhu (Chinese for hairy
bamboo) and Moso (Japanese) bamboo, species not consumed by
pandas. It is grown in China, harvested and then milled into
solid bamboo lumber by slicing the hollow round shoots into
strips, boiling the strips to remove the starch and then
dried and laminated into solid boards. |
